This is a movie. Just like we don’t teach kids to actually participate in fights or try to fly or do anything dangerous that superheroes do, we don’t teach them to do dangerous things in heels. It’s a movie. It’s not real. I think we can afford for a cartoon person to wear heels if it sends the message that girliness does not preclude anyone from doing or being whatever they want. This follow up article is you pretending you had a valid point, instead of owning up to the fact that you accidentally said something stupid and thoughtless.

I do love you ideals and logic in these articals though i would like to add 2 small things if i may. You are right, heels in a fight scene is very impractical, but i became extraordinarily excited to have a tall character wearing them. Honey lemon is 5′ 10” the same as me. And people of my height are very commonly put down when we wear heels, statements like ‘you look like a giant’, ‘your like, freakishly tall for a girl’ and my personal favourite ‘guys don’t like girls THAT much taller then them’ now… I’m gay, so that last remark never really bothers me. But even i still felt pressure to only ever wear flats so i could look somewhat ‘normal’ and seeing honey lemon actually have me more confidence to say ‘f*** it’. So bonus points for her there. Makeing it for the tall girls. The second point I’d like to add, it the dramatic de-sexualisation of the characters from the comics. Anyone reading this who has not read the comics should go Google some of the images. The characters in it, especially honey lemon were very sexualised. I’m very glad they de-sexualised it as much as they did. But this is just add on’s , your artical makes perfect points, thank you for writing it.

No. Honey Lemon was, in fact, invented by Marvel. You obviously didn’t completely read the author’s previous article on this character, or you didn’t comprehend or retain the fact that the author recognizes Latinas come in many shapes, colors, and sizes. The only reason any of us know, without a doubt, what Honey Lemon’s ethnicity is supposed to be is because Disney said so. There were no other indicators such as last name or more consistent voice acting for her accent. I hope this helps you understand.

There are a lot of Latina women who are fair skinned. You obviously don’t know what white-washing is. White washing is when they take a character who already exists as POC and make them white. She, to my knowledge, was invented by Disney. And there is a term for light looking POC, it’s “white passing”. This does NOT make a person white.

as I love both Honey Lemon and GoGo, I also had peeve moment with her heels in a fight. and to defend your previous article. I thought she was a Caucasian woman who had an interest in both science and culture. I totally thought her portryal was more of the “I love Asian culture and fashion.” type. and I say that because I’m Asian (totally loved the Asian influence in the movie) and have lots of friends who are like Honey Lemon, girly,dorky,intelligent and totally lovers of Japanese culture. To be frank. I was waiting for her to cosplay.
