For a little while now, the internet has been buzzing about Disney Imagineers testing flying dragon contraptions, presumably for the theoretical “Avatarland” set for Disney’s Animal Kingdom (more on that another time).
Turns out we were wrong. Not about the dragons, but the location. Disney Parks’ Official blog has been reporting “dragon sightings” in the form of a grainy video and sepia photo of mysteriously large eggs.
Rumor has it these suckers are not only going to fly, but also breathe fire!
Dude. Way cool.
Judging by the timing of the videos, they’re cuing up these pyrotechnic babies for the New Fantasyland, maybe to help add some spice to it’s Grand Opening on December 6th. It would certainly help attract those elusive tween boys to the otherwise estrogen-filled fairy tale princess land.
I would also venture a guess that this design may have been originally conceived for Avatar Land, but since it has been delayed for God-knows-how-long, it would be a shame to let a gem like this sit on the shelf.
Question is, how advanced is this technology? Will it work?
Well, it’s Disney. They work magic.
But I have been on Test Track too many times to think that Disney is incapable of technological failure. (And we won’t even mention the Yeti fiasco…)
But I have faith and trust in Disney’s pixie dust. So we’ll just have to wait and see! What are your thoughts?
